David is a native of Los Angeles.  He began playing piano at the age of 6. Not able to buy any music on his own, David listened to the vinyl collection of his older brother which consisted mostly of classic rock from the 60s-70s. He fell in love with the guitar work of David Gilmore, BB King, Eddie Van Halen, Pete Townshend, Brian May, and George Harrison. At the age of 11, he quit the piano to play guitar. While most kids were outside playing basketball or playing Nintendo games, David stayed home transcribing and practicing all of his favorite classic rock solos. At the age of 12, David was already in his first band gigging regularly and becoming well known in the local LA scene.
David didn't pick up the bass until age 14 when the band he was in thought it would be cool to switch instruments during performances.  Being highly influenced by Flea from RHCP, David spent a lot of time honing his slap pop skills.  He then cowrote a few funk tunes with his bandmates which won them 4th place in the Hollywood Battle of the Bands when he was 16. David found a love with the bass and is inspired by countless bassists including Nathan East, Jimmy Haslip, Christian McBride, Sharay Reed, James Jamerson and of course, the amazing Jaco Pastorius.
With a passion for all music genres, David has studied and mastered blues, funk, R&B, reggae, latin and jazz . David can be found playing bass for the popular SoCal South Bay jazz group "Sunny Blue".

Kendall Kay

Like many of his generation, Sunny grew up rocking out to music from the 70s and 80s. In his early years, Sunny played guitar in many pick-up bands and also played with friends at local blues jams in the San Diego, California area. During this period, he found a lot of inspiration from influential bands across multiple music genres, including Pink Floyd, Rush, Direstraits, Dave Matthews Band, Eric Johnson, Sting, and Steely Dan.
As Sunny continued his music journey, he found the perfect home in the world of jazz. Drawn by the inspiring compositions of jazz greats like Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, and Pat Metheny, Sunny has focused on developing his own jazz and fusion sound by forming his own band.
With a uniquely groovy sound and sophisticated modern Jazz style, Sunny has assembled talented members in his band including David Cook on bass, Scott Pugmire on drums, and the talented Kyung-Min Kim on piano. Together, they have been delighting crowds and building the Sunny Blue fan base throughout California’s South Bay Region.
Currently based in Los Angeles, California, Sunny studies jazz with Maestro Ken Song.
